How do I remove my wood backsplash that is molding?

I have a 4" high backsplash made of wood that I just noticed has developed mold underneath the clear caulking. I have wanted to remove it for some time now, but I'm not sure the best way to get it off without destroying the wall. Is there a tool for this sort of thing?

You can take the caulking out and replace that. Clean the area with vinegar to kill all the mold spores. If you want to take the backsplash out, it depends on how it was put on the wall.
After removing all the caulking you can try using a larger putty knife and slowly try prying it forward. If you can see tiny pin holes in it they used a pin nailer on it and should come off pretty easy. If they put construction adhesive behind it you will have damage to your wall board and will have to repair it with a skim coat of mud or install a new backslash to cover it. Hope this helps.

If its nailed, try to hook that little knotch under the nail. You can use a scrap of wood under the edge that is against the wall to keep from making a mark.

The edges have likely been sealed with caulking, so use a utility knife to cut the caulk on all sides. Check for any nails that may have been used in the original installation and remove them. Slide a 3-inch or wider metal putty knife behind the backsplash to loosen the glue as much as possible, tapping it lightly with a hammer while sliding all the way to the bottom. Finally, remove the backsplash completely by using a pry bar for leverage if needed. Use gentle, repetitive movements to avoid damaging the wall as much as possible.
