I'd build a false wall and door, making sure I had a large vent in it not to restrict the air flow.
I'll add to that- make your false walls out of louvered doors, there will be plenty of air flow, without the view of the furnace. One could even hang one's hat on those doors, with the help of a hook or.....seven, hung on the slats!

I used beautiful folding screens from JCPenny.
Similar, but could use shutters that are louvered
Easiest and quickest way is to put a dressing screen in front of it. Can be plain, or decorated wood or something more like an Oriental painted screen. Just look up bi-fold doors ideas!
I would build a wood frame wall out of 2x2" painted your white, and then add metal screen like you use on radiator covers, and leave a panel with hinges for access. Most radiator screening is a 3'x3' so you will have to make your framing to accomodate that size.... kind of like a big shoji screen,,,, https://www.homedepot.com/s/radiator%20metal%20screening?NCNI-5 Plenty of air flow and if its a gas heater, maybe put a carbon monoxide alarm in there.
This is the answer I needed. Thank you. The luever doors make sense.
