A wet saw is the best answer although I've seen posts on the web of cutting plates with a ring saw. I don't know how a tile saw would do since the plate's not a completely flat surface. Perhaps other Hometalkers will know.
I think it depends on what the plate is made of, but a wet saw would probably be best.
Try using a glass cutter such as they use for windows. Score it in a straight line on the front and back ( draw your line with a ruler same position both sides) . After scoring it tap it with a rubber mallet.. it should break evenly. Goodluck
