English ivy is a great ground cover. Easily maintained, deep green color, and will not interfere with water lines. That being said, if there are trees, ivy is a great climber and will take over trees and can be somewhat invasive without good maintenance with a mower and weedeater. Think of things that make you smile and make a little version of it in that spot.Maybe put a bird bath or a fountain where the butterfly bush was. A yard statue or bench could also be nice. You could put a wishing well there with some gnomes too!😊Helpful Reply -

Try using some various colored grasses. The scan be planted in clumps that wind up looking like potted plants and are pretty most of the time. The only upkeep if cutting them down just before they come back in the spring so new, pretty growth will show. Lariope is one of my favorite...variegated border grass. Also, look for small "evergreens" that come in various colors...they look like miniature Christmas trees.Helpful Reply -

HAve you considered ornamental grasses? THEy come in various heights, colours and textures, will look wonderful nestled amongst the rock and shouldn’t compromise your water linesHelpful Reply -
