Can I use interior paint in the garden?

I have lots of emulsion paint stored in the shed which can be used up, thus giving me a brighter garden and more storage space in the shed. Everyones a winner (hopefully).

Is there a reason I shouldn't use it?

Interior paint will not hold up outside

interior paint would be ok to use but it doesn't hold up well against the outside elements

A good clear coat of polyurethane will help it hold up

    Hi Tess,

Ummm, Interior plastic or latex paints are not as 'flexible' as exterior paints however they should 'hold up ok' in most situations, ceiling paints are probably the least likely to preform well. Wall paints work very well because they have more pigment and binder than ceiling paints generally. Enamel or oil paints will fade and peel quicker outside than newer latex or plastic paints.

Agreed that it's not ideal, but I'd give it a shot with polyurethane...

Thanks Thomas, it means that they won't go to waste & I'm sure there's a tin of varnish in that shed too (aka polyurethane).
