Hi Shirley,
The first is what material is the door made from? Is it already painted or stained timber? What colour is it now and what colour do you want it to be? Are you in a position to take the door off its hinges and lay it flat on a couple of saw benches? Is there glass in the door or is it solid? Up loading a photo can help. Drop me a note if you like and I will try and give you some advice.

The secret to success is in the prep work, which unfortunately is the tedious labor intensive part. Providing a truly smooth, clean surface will allow the paint, either brushed on or sprayed, to flatten itself out into a smooth, pristine looking finish.
Whether using liquid or spray paint, look up some online videos of proper painting techniques. The technique is not difficult, but not knowing the right way is why so many do it yourself jobs look amateurish.
