What should I use to wipe down a new Rubbermaid deck box I want to paint?

What kind of primer and paint should I use? It will be outside.

Wash it down with some hot water and a few squirts of Dawn dish liquid. Rinse and dry. Use Rustoleum or Krylon spray paint made for plastic. Several light coats will give you a smooth finish.

I wanted to do the same, but the season got away from me. It was recommended by Home Depot to use the spray paint marked 2X, made to be used on plastics.

Thanks to all. I have a lot of plastic bins, shoe boxes, etc I don't want to get rid of but the ugly colors sure make me want to! Gonna use these suggestions and organize with what I have rather than spend a fortune on new stuff.
