What can I do if my Minwax-painted wood chairs haven't dried?

Hi Evita: Did you put on thick or thin coats? Thin coats work best. If it is humid out, that could retard the drying. Give it a couple more days to see if that helps. Unless it's still humid, then give it more time. If you can set the chairs out in the sun, that might help. If that doesn't work, then here is a site that has some suggestions for you.

Hi Evita! Did you stain the chairs also did you sand before you applied the stain? And did you stir the stain really well before you applied the stain? Those can all affect the over all finish. I would recommend removing the stain with a paint stripper and going for it again! :)

What were your chairs like before you started? Was it raw wood with no finish or was there already stain and a clear finish? If you did not sand off the clear finish off and stained over that this would happen. It is unusual that if your stain was applied to raw wood that it would not be dry after 3 days. Was it a stain with a poly in it like Minwax PolyShades and maybe you put it on too thick?

Your new stain isn't meshing with the old finish. You'll have to strip and start over. Don't use the stain with poly in it. Looks blotchy - not pretty. Better to use gel stain on stripped wood and apply a separate top coat.
