Use a glass paint for a stained glass effect. Craft shops used to have it...paint on the underneath side.
if you want it made bigger....3/4 inch or so plywood cut to overlap the edge of the existing top. Paint or varnish with made for out of doors product.
Decoupage applied to the underside of table.
