Painting oak furniture

I have several large pieces of solid oak furniture that I want to change the color of. This is going to be a huge project, so I need the easiest way to go about it! Any suggestions? And I don't like the "farm" or distressed look.

I recently painted my dining room table (of 37 years) and an old dresser, being used as a buffet in my NEW home. I used a flat white with a primer and I LOVE the way it turned out. To protect the surface, I actually used ModgePodge for furniture. It has been 6 months and it is still all holding up really well.

      oops! I wasnt finished...

With regards to sanding, I did very little vecause the paint was self priming...GLIDDEN HIGH ENDURANCE FLAT ( I loved the FLAT) Antique white. wherever I could I used a foam roller, I feel it gives a much smoother finish.

      I hope this helps...good luck

Lightly sand to remove any gloss. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Kilz. Then paint your color. Acrylic latex paint will work. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.
