Hi. Are you working with acrylics or regular paints? I mix my own, just go slow mixing little at a time. I just used a half gallon if white and I have a tourquise, but I wanted a light blue so I took my stir stick and dipped it in the tourquise a little, stirred it in the white till I got the color I wanted, it came out like a Robin's egg blue. It would be the same with acrylics. Try to remember the measurements of each or get your amount from the beginning. Online they have the color charts for mixing. You can get colors they don't sell in stores. Have fun 🙂
I also mix my own custom colors. Latex with latex, oil with oil. Been doing it for years. One thing I learned is add the darker paint to the light paint gradually. I buy white paint, small jars of sample colors and even OOPS paint.
you can use/mix colors of the same paint type/base--oil with oil & latex/acrylic with latex/acrylic(Because both are water-based, you can mix them. Most artists do not want to use house paint for fine arts because it doesn't last as long as artist's acrylic, but youmay want to mix acrylics with latex to get the exact color or texture you need for a specific project) ;you can add food coloring;you can buy powdered dye/coloring ;you can use Rit clothing dyes;you can use art/craft paint to tint color acrylic paints or oil with oil;go to city/county recycling hazmat recycling centers for free paints people leave;or buy paint from hardware stores that people have decided they don't want from previous orders or mixed then don't like, these can be gotten really cheap/lower cost/really high end paints, then buy/add a pint or quart to them to get color ypou want;check garage sales for paint too or places like Habitat for Humanity resale stores. all good places to get lower costing paints to make your own colors. If you need the larger quantities for outdoors just make sure they are both exterior paint so it will last. I just got for free 20 gallons exterior masonry paint all white then bought gallon of darker colored and mixed it all to gether to paint my block wall house-------would have cost me hundreds of dollars. Just make sure you mix it all the same so you have the same end color use measuring cups to get amounts the same, and stir ,stir, stir. Don't shake creates bubbles.
