Whitewash is simply water-based white paint thinned down with water. The more water you add, the thinner you make your mixture, the initial coating power of the wash will be diminished depending on how much water you add, runny and drippy so it's best to have two people working to apply -- one with a roller and one following behind with a brush. Use a runny mix if you want a more "transparent" effect (so you can see the color of the bricks coming through) , add less water if you want a less transparent wash.
