Yes you will have to or the paint will come off
If you don't put a finish on the old bike, the chalk paint may not last very long in the weather and it may be easier to keep it clean. I would use something that is durable like marine polyurethane.
Thank you, painted it today, will take your advice and varnish tomorrow, Think I'll use a spray, painting was very fiddly.
