What new light color? Do you have a picture?
Not sure what you are referring to? Do you want to stain your furniture?
If you're looking to lighten up the color of the wood, you'll have to remove the finish and sand the stain out. Otherwise there are numerous ways to paint them which you can scroll through here: https://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=paint%20furniture
It's usually achieved by sanding down the wood or stripping it to raw wood. Then bleaching it with bleach for that sun aged look, or applying a white wash over the raw wood.
I've ha success with Rustoleums Antique White stain. :) Fist sand down your piece it doesn't not need to be perfect then apply the stain.
