Go to a hobby shop and ask, it may be different kinds for different fabrics and different types of paint. They can usually hook you up with what you need. I have used acrylic paints to create texture on canvas or wood in the color you want the background to be.Helpful Reply -

Sanded grout. Sand. Wadded, wrinkled paper. Cloth treated with ModPodge or just paint. Sticks and twigs.Helpful Reply -
