The idea is to make your choices livable in a more modern area. Reds were very popular . A three-color scheme was typical in Victorian home interiors. The main color in a three-color scheme typically appears on about 60 percent of the surfaces, the secondary color on about 30 percent and the remaining color on the accents and accessories. Popular colors included aubergine, mustard yellow, teal, plum, lavender, black, walnut and burgundy. The public spaces in a Victorian home tended to have darker, more intense colors, than the private spaces (like bedrooms) . This could be a reaction to the soot and dust in the air at the time and an attempt to camouflage the air-born soil. Dark purple, burgundy, walnut and even black are colors often found in these areas. see some popular colors of the times below. As your house is from 1902, it is late Victorian, rather than early Victorian.
