Why Paint ,stain would be in your best interestt
There is out door deck paint as there is deck stain, but there is prep work involved. Proper prep is the key.
You definitely have to do the prep work. Clean, sand a little and most important is to let it dry thoroughly before you apply anything to it. I use Sherwin Williams opaque deck paint. I like it a lot better than stain, but that is just my personal preference.
We purchased a mobile home a couple years ago with a full length deck. Part of it was new wood and one part was painted. we are just redoing it now. We pressure washed the whole thing, then made sure all the nails and screws were tight and sanded down the bad spots. We then decided to paint it with floor and porch paint. We love it!!!!!!!!
Prep is important, like everyone said, but in my experience - it's just less overwhelming once you actually get started!
Thank you all!
