Yes, but you will need a bit more equipment than just a roller. Clean the paneling of any finish weather it’s a wax or a varnish. then use a primer...you need to get it in the grooves of the paneling use a brush. when a section is has the groves painted..then use a roller to get the non groves areas painted. Be mindful of drips of paint. If you are using a darker color for the paint the primer some of them can be tinted to match the top coat color. This is one project I’d do with an oil based paint And primer.. Less moisture for the wood to absorb.

Yes, we did it in our add-on-room many years ago. Just sand it a little, prime and then paint. Just make sure to get in those in between places. After many hrs vola, beautiful .

Yea. Clean the paneling well with a vinegar water water mix. Then sand lightly and paint. A wash usually looks so much better imho. (Watered down white it grey paint). Good luck! I hope you'll post pics of final project.

Clean the walls very good, patch up any little nicks, use caulking to fill in the seams and get them smooth, so it looks like a solid wall. Then use a good primer

tinted one shade lighter than your final coat of paint. My Mil did this and it turned out beautiful.

Painted my rec room paneling basic right-off-the-shelf white. Wash the walls with Dawn, prime the walls, and then paint with as many coats as necessary. Use a small paint brush to get into seams; no caulking necessary. It doesn't need to look like a solid wall. The seams create depth. Mine turned out beautifully!
