Can you paint ceramic bathroom floor tile

I have ceramic floor tile in my bathroom, somehow something was spilled on it and it has been stained for the past 3 yrs. before chipping up the whole floor I thought I'd try painting it.

Usually ceramic tile is impervious to stains. Grout, on the other hand, seems to go looking for stains. If it is only the grout, you can remove the stuff using a grout saw sold wherever they sell ceramic tile. Also sell small cans of premixed grout which is pretty darned easy to use.

Stains on a surface can usually be removed by one of three solvents: water, which you have already tried, alcohol, or mineral spirits.

Paint would be a last resort and only temporary on a place that gets foot traffic.
