HELP - Painting & 1950's texture issue!

Carolyn
by Carolyn
We had a hallway in a 1950's home painted. Handyman used a pink substance that turns white to fill in small holes scattered on wall from hanging things over the years, and smoothed it out. Then he painted over. BUT, now we see what looks like large splatter spots all over the wall. His spots are large star-shaped smooth splatter-like spots and do not have the original texture. Catches the light and looks horrible. Are we going to have to retexture entire hallway, and repaint? I asked him to try and texture over these spots, repaint, but afraid he won't be able to match existing texture pattern. Almost ready to put beadboard or something all in the hall.

Hmm I wonder if you used a really thick and very hard-core primer if that might work especially if you do two coats of it? I am afraid you may have to just do a skim coat over the entire wall. That pink stuff makes me think of the patch goop and I wonder if he had just used good old fashioned sheet rock mud if you wouldn't have had this problem at all. I would just do a light skim coat of mud over the entire wall if the primer idea was sure not to work. So sorry to hear about it! Good luck!

If it were me I would insist he come back and re0do the entire job.Sounds like he did not properly prep the wall and he should be held accountable.

The painter needed to pre-prime each spot BEFORE he painted the wall. Now the wall needs to be repainted and that should take care of all your splatter spots.

@Janet Ackenhusen Sounds good. This has been a mess for such a simple painting project. Thank you.
  • I flip houses, and I'm flipping a 1950s now. The key to patching is NOT just filling the holes. A very light orange peel (sell in a can at Lowe's) sprayed not just on the patch holes but slightly around it should help. Once it's dry...repaint. But I would insist that be on the contractor.

@The Bachelorette Pad Flip Great - I will get some of that for sure. This site has so many helpful folks. Thank you very much. I've pulled up carpet and discovered parquet floors, so shall now be checking out how to redo those.
