How long can painters tape be up


how far in advance can I put the tape on without pulling off other paint?

    Hi Bonnie, I try to leave painter's tape up for the least amount of time possible. If you need to put it up in advance focus on just pressing along the edge that needs to be protected. In other words: press the least amount of tape to the wall as possible.

    I depends on where you are applying it. In direct sunlight 1 day, 3 days max in any other area.

    I usually tape up the day before then press down and dampen when I start painting.

      Take a slightly damp sponge and press over the tape. Then a putty knife or something else with a plastic edge. It helps to seal it and prevents bleeds. Frogtape is the best choice.

  • We always do it two or three days in advance, but no longer than that. I left some on for five days once, very difficult to remove :)
