How to paint a plaster ceiling that keeps sucking up the paint?

We recently painted our living room ceiling in our house that was built in the 1940's. We used Behr Marquee paint and it goes on great and covers well. An hour later and it all sunk into the ceiling. Should we have used a sealer before painting?

Prime with a stain blocking primer Like Zinsser 123 or BIN. Then paint.Helpful Reply -

From my experience, it's always best to use a primer before a job like yours. Especially if it hasn't been painted in quite some time. I like the Behr Marquee paints, but I've had issues with them as far as coverage as well. I would buy some Kilz, go over what you painted, and then repaint with the Behr. Good luck!Helpful Reply- See 1 previous

You might need to first use a primer to seal it. Good luck!Helpful Reply -

Use a PVA or drywall primer first. These are made to work like a sealer to keep paint from absorbing.Helpful Reply -
