How to paint paneling in my bedroom?
I can't afford to have my paneling taken down in my bedroom. How hard is it to paint paneling? Do I have to do anything special to it before painting. About the groves can I tape and dry paste them? Thanks for any help..... I just painted my first room... I'm 72 years old.... Now on the roll....LOL

I have painted a dining room with semi gloss Autumn wheat medium painted paneling and looks good with the groves in it. If you have dark paneling I would put a white primer paint on it first and then choose your color to paint over the primer. Have not had any problems.
Oneita...You go girl! Congrats on lst paint job. As for as the paneling...I would clean from top to bottom..sand any places that might need it..prime then paint. Behr has a paint with primer in it I believe and possibly others. You can fill the seams with a joint compound but I just applied primer on my seams in the basement first then covered with two coats of paint. Good luck!
I’ve done the same with primer and regular paint. One hint would be that eggshel or semi gloss is easier than flat to keep clean.
I am always painting somewhere in the house.Definitely not a pro but I like what I end up with.Panaling was no problem.Paint with primer already in it makes it a lot easier. You can fill grooves with joint compound and sand ...or not. You can cover with paintable wallpaper if you want texture.Or I just smeared joint compound all over one paneled wall for a kind of venisian plaster look and then painted over.kind of a cool look too! Good luck!
one more thing...you can always just do a dry brush and lighten up the paneling instead of a full paint cover.
It depends on the paneling if it’s old yellow high gloss wood , use a Kilz primer after a light sanding I didn’t even sand so that the yellow wouldn’t come back thru it never did . Yes kidz is an extra step but it works beautifully I think they’re making paint colors now too. If it’s not go for paint with primer in it thought if it’s dark paneling there again that Kilz will give a great base for a lighter tone . The grooves just look farmhouse that’s a. Plus in my opinion !
