I would recommend picking up a laser level. This will help you get the lines straight. Here is a post did explaining how we used a laser level to add a striped accent wall to my sons bedroom.

I do faux painting, and I measure the wall putting pencil dots on best placement (not all walls are level), and then put blue painters tape on the outside border of the lines. To keep the line real crisp, I sometimes paint over the edge with clear in the same finish as the wall (i.e. satin, semi-gloss etc) Then I use small high density foam rollers to fill in.

Your best friend when painting them will be Frog Tape! You'll get straight, clean lines with it.
