Sure, just sand and paint. If it's the spindles then make sure that you properly prep them and use a paint for metal. Ideally it would be best to just use a reustolium paint product and spray paint them but that would be best if you remove them and that's not always the easiest thing to do,so just prep them really well and apply a paint for the metal.

    Hi Dacemail,

Yes you can. The metal should be checked for rust and cleaned with a wire brush. If the oak has a sealer finish, it should first be cleaned and lightly sanded before starting. TSP is a good cleaner for both. Also be sure to use a tack cloth for the final wiping before painting. Both could use a coat of primer, but especially the bannister. I'd suggest a Rustoleum or other anti-rust paint product because of the metal. Wishing you the best.

You can paint any surface with prep and the right paint.

Yes you can. Just lightly sand to remove any shine. Prime with a good stain blocking primer and paint. Any paint will work. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane.

You can paint both with Chalk Paint, I recommend Annie Sloan Paint. No sanding or priming , seal to finish or wax to seal. Look at YOUTUBE VIDEOS about chalk paint.

some are not worth the money, Annie’s is more but soooo worth it. Good luck.
