It takes more than grits to live through two hurricanes and want to prepare for a third. My first thought is cement board. It is design for showers and I think will be the closest thing to waterproof drywall you're looking for.

My second thought is just paint the concrete walls. You may want to do some finishing work so it looks well, fisidhed.

My third thought is bow to the inevitable. Nail vertical 8' 1x3s to the header, every 4 '. Then buy some inexpensive wood paneling and use the 1x3s at the joints. Use as little construction glue as possible. This would get ruined, but would be easy to pull out and would hurt less on the wallet.

As for doors ... do you need them? Would an open floor plan be feasible? Exterior doors, I'd vote for solid steel; interior, hollow core, disposable, too.

Move the electric up as high as you can comfortably reach.

    Does this sound feasible, Seagrits?

(Sorry for the partial answer above. Chihuahua #1 wanted to join the fun!)

There is nothing fully waterproof, because no matter what you put on the wall as a finish your studs are probably still wood and will get water damage. They also may host mold spores, which can then grow out of any seams. If you do not have any wood to worry about you can use cement panels and seal the edges well.

HardyBoard -- fiberglass/concrete wall panels -- avail at Lowe's ,etc. BUT that won't prevent water from seeping UNDERNEATH / Between the boards if submerged from a flood ....
