How to PAINT TILE
I have spray painted a hammered metal color over glossy tile and it came out pretty cool.
Is it washable? Is this in a wet environment? How is it holding up?
Hi Elizabeth!
Liz here from SimpleDecoratingTips.com. I know of 2 products that are bonding primers that you could use. (assuming the tile you want to paint is not in a shower where it would be getting direct water on it... in that case, don't paint it, you'll be sorry, no matter what, it'll eventually peel off from the daily water use on it) But if it you're talking tile, even shiny, gloss tile not in the shower, here are the two bonding primers:
The first one is this shellac based primer. Works great, but stinks and is really runny. Here is the link for that: http://go.redirectingat.com?id=78087X1556902&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FZinsser-B-I-N-Shellac-Base-Primer-1-Gallon%2Fdp%2FB000C02C68%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1%3Fie%3DUTF8%26qid%3D1488842771%26sr%3D8-1%26keywords%3Dbin%2Bshellac%2Bprimer
The other one is this amazing bonding primer that is water based, so it cleans up with soap and water. It is thicker and goes on wonderfully smooth, and really sticks!! Here is the link for that: http://go.redirectingat.com?id=78087X1556902&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FINSL-X-SXA110099-04-Waterborne-Bonding-Primer%2Fdp%2FB000MITIF8%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1%3Fie%3DUTF8%26qid%3D1488842708%26sr%3D8-1%26keywords%3Dstyx%2Bprimer
Once you properly prime it, no sanding necessary with either of these products, then you can paint with 2 coats of your favorite latex paint.
Hope that helps! :) Liz
