We primed the wood, then painted with glossy white. Should we cover with polyurethane?

seal them with a non yellowing poly acrylic

Hi, Susan. Check your glossy paint to see if it recommends being sealed. If there is no comment about this, then I definitely would use a poly sealer. Kitchen cabinets take a beating. Better to take care of it now than have it be a hassle later.

You shouldn’t need to if you’ve used a gloss enamel

High gloss enamel is quite chip resistant, as enamel is a hardening agent. There should be no need to go any further, as another coat of anything won't prevent a ding. Most polyurethanes yellow with age, and that is accelerated by direct sunlight. I'd recommend against it, because I'm guessing you used a high quality paint.
