a very thick nap on the roller, roll it on in 1 direction, let dry, next coat goes on in the the other direction i.e. north to south 1st coat, east to west for the next. you may need to spot paint a few areas with a brush.
A VERY thick roller with the most knapp that you can find and when you roll the paint on make sure your roller is covered in A LOT of paint.
hi,I would rent a sprayer and cover everything.
The key to painting a textured ceiling is to only roll ONE DIRECTION.... NEVER back and forth (the first stroke dampens the popcorn and the back stroke pulls it off) Spray painting, several VERY light coats works the best... but it can be roller painted... DO NOT over load the roller with paint, roll only one direction, front to back, for example... let dry COMPLETELY between coats.... roll the second coat from left to right.... 3 rd coat corner to corner (front left to back right) diagonally.... 4 th coat,if needed, the other way... front right to back left... The hard part is waiting for all the coats to dry between... and being sure it is totally dry before the next coat..... if the popcorn is the least bit damp... it will pull off onto the roller
I had a decorating business and did a lot of this. yes, find a heavy knapp roller but--DON"T--load it up with paint. do 1 light coat, let it dry and then, if needed do another. if you get the texture too saturated, it will come loose and fall. spraying is a good idea but not too heavy.
