I learned from experience, the more labels, the better! Its annoying atthe time but its worth it when you're unpacking! Good luck!

Pack the things you don't use often first....off-season clothes/boots/pictures/decorative things...Label everything on the top and side of the box....have a master list of what is in each box. Also label the room you intend to use the contents in. Use newspaper for dishes, or discarded patterns [the tissue paper works well]. Wrap every plate/bowl with at least one sheet of paper. Get sturdy boxes from a place that sells alcohol....they have dividers in some of the boxes. Don't wait to start....It's lots of work, but do it little by little. Also, set aside an area for packed boxes that is near the door, so it's easy to move out what have already packed. Hope you enjoy your new place!

DO NOT USE NEWS PAPER TO WRAP DISHES! If you use news paper you will have to wash all your dishes and glasses when you unwrap them. Save time and space by wrapping your dishes in dish towels and table clothes. Also make up one box with things that are needed immediately, first aid kit, coffee pot and mugs, sugar, coffee mate, bread, marg or butter and peanut butter or cheese whiz so you can have a break while unpacking. Don't forget spoons and a knife as well. It is also a good idea to have a special box with bedding and pillows for the first night. Hope you have an easy and fun move.

Start piles first of what you know for sure you want.Pack up one room at a time as not to get overwhelmed. Make sure you clearly mark your boxes.Discard right away of those items you do not want, donate or sell.

save the kitchen to pack last. it should be 1st off the truck(s) but...not always. pack a few days worth of clothes, the basic pans- fry pan, pot to boil water. make a meal kit(s)put all the ingredients needed measured in plastic bags. pick up meat, or use thing like canned chicken or tuna. when you get to your new location, you have what you need for a few days- wile waiting for the rest of your stuff to arrive. my family are navy and army vets. frequent moves. these were the tips i got for relocating to my current town.

Think of LIFO. Last In First Out, meaning, the first box you will need.....coffee pot, kitchen items, toiletries, and then on. I needed my coffee pot, paper towels, t.p. and soap to get me started when I moved into my new home. Number your boxes and keep a list of the items in each box. It will free you from unwanted stress. Best of luck.

I bought different colors and designs of duct tape and tagged the boxes according to which room I wanted them to be put in the new house. It made it easier for the movers and for me to unpack.
