Yes. Remover heater. It needs to be throughly cleaned. Cover anything that needs protection so no paint gets on it. Do a primer paint, use a heat resistant paint. It will no doubt smell when you use it the first time, so be aware.1 marked as helpful Reply -

You could use heat resistant spray paint like Rustoleum, colors: clear, flat aluminum, flat black, flat blue, flat orange, flat red, flat white. You want to spray far enough away to prevent clogging any vent holes. https://www.google.com/search?q=heat+resistant+paint+colors&client=opera&hs=625&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwji9fSQ2JvVAhVF5WMKHcd6BY0Q7AkIWg&biw=1366&bih=629Helpful Reply -

I don't think I would try it. Just in case the paint vs the hot water tank. Ask at a good hardware store, just to be wise, ok? Best wishes, J.Helpful Reply -

Mrs. Obvious here. Be sure to turn the gas off first. Take the pieces outside to be painted. You can use a cardboard box as a painting box. Clean everything you can reach of the heater parts. Use a vacuum cleaner, but no chemicals. When you think the cover and whatever else is dry, let it cure another day. Double check that every piece is put back correctly. Turn the gas back on, at least to check it. Make sure there is a working smoke alarm in that room. Obvious sermon over. 😇Helpful Reply -

Are we talking wall heater like.... https://www.google.com/search?q=pictures+70s+gas+wall+heater&client=opera&hs=ZWS&tbm=isch&imgil=mNsfbNJPtTbhzM%253A%253B29oVz6pydCgRTM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fdiy.stackexchange.com%25252Fquestions%25252F23330%25252Fhow-can-i-retrofit-this-existing-wall-heater-with-an-external-thermostat&source=iu&pf=m&fir=mNsfbNJPtTbhzM%253A%252C29oVz6pydCgRTM%252C_&usg=__xt0bEtD-8oSiy070CIq9MbttYno%3D&biw=1366&bih=629&ved=0ahUKEwjRufKC8pvVAhUP4WMKHa73At0QyjcINw&ei=1L5yWdH_OI_CjwOu74voDQ#imgrc=mNsfbNJPtTbhzM: covers come off, paint outside. Tape off wall part and mask floor and wall. and spray. I would not spray inside, won't show anyway.1 marked as helpful Reply -
