You can use caulk rope to stuff in the crack. If there are any small gaps, then caulk over it.
I'm guessing that the photo is that of a set of glass doors in front of the fireplace? If the gap is even all around I would suggest that the clamps that hold it in place may have come loose. I'd start there before looking for something to stuff in the space.
I'm with Ken on this one. I think your installation is faulty. I wouldn't do ANYTHING to seal that gap until you have it checked. The link in the 1st answer is for a product that is not even fireproof (read the product questions).
Thanks for the tips. I will take a look to see if there are any clamps. If not, I'll get someone more knowledgeable to take a look to see what can be done.
Since you are dealing with a gas fireplace your best bet is to call a pro. to make sure there is no carbon-monoxide leaking back into the house. Odorless and deadly.
Could be dangerous since it is gas. Either call the installer, if you know who it is or a professional. The only other thing I can think of is to use the gasket type material which is used on the inside of the glass doors which is very fire resistant. You should be able to purchase this at a retail store which sells fireplaces.
