Hi Sheryll,
If there is still some of the chain visible, and it snapped outside of the fan, then you can get a new length of chain and a connector to repair it ( like this).
However, if it broke from inside the fan, this is going to be an electrical repair. If you aren't comfortable with doing electrical work, it would be safest to hire an electrician. But if you have experience and feel comfortable doing this type of DIY, here's a video that shows you exactly how to make the repair.
Hope this helps and that you're able to keep cool this summer!
You can buy replacement chains at Lowe's. You did not mention if it was chain or cord.
There are chain replacement / extension kits available at most hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowe's... just be sure that the "beads" are the same size.
Did it break off internally or externally?

If it isn't broken inside, you can purchase an additional pull and there is a small piece that will enable you to attach it as long as you have one link of the existing chain. They just snap on to it.
Hello. Could you post a picture to see what the site of the break looks like. It may give us more information to suggest solutions. There are areas of repair parts at the local big box stores.
If you go to Home Depot in the back in the ceiling fan department they sell a new switch to replace it
