How do you get pens that still have plenty of ink to write again?

Sometimes I can get some pens to work if I scribble on some paper fast with them until the ink starts running again. But this method hasn't been successful with a lot of them. I would hate to throw them out as it would be such a waste!

put some heat on the end with a match or lighter not to much to cause it to melt
Make check marks on a pad of paper. Sounds crazy I know, but it works. The pad helps the little ball start rolling again (instead of one piece of paper on a hard surface) and the check mark movement...it just works!
use a lighter at the tip
