My Whirlpool washer's lid isn't locking and isn't working because of that. What can I do? Washer Model # WTW 5600XWO Can anyone help? On occasion, it also does not spin, any suggestions on how to fix a washing machine that won't spin would also be appreciated.

Thank you. Elsie

Call or email the manufacturer - many websites have FAQs on them and you might find the answer just by looking it up.

I tried posting the question and a technician (i presume) answered and wanted $25. for an answer. No proof that it was an answer that i could fix myself or maybe to just tell me to contact Whirlpool or a mechanic.

I think you're going to need to inspect the door strike assembly for damage. It might need to be replaced

    My Whirlpool Washing Machine.

Maybe I did not explain my problem in detail enough.

My top loading washer stopped in the middle of a wash one day. I could open the lid (which has to be locked in order for the machine to work). I could not get it to lock. After thinking a little bit I came to the conclusion that we have COMPUTERS in all our machines today. And what do we do when a computer does not work? We turn it off and restart it. Most of the time it corrects itself when you do that.

So I went to the Circuit Breaker and turned off the Washing Machine. I waited a few seconds and then turned it back on. BINGO ...it worked. That is GREAT but now it does not go through the complete cycle and stops. If I go to the Circuit Breaker and turn it off and on again, it works. This is a nuisance to do all the time. I would like to have it complete the cycle by itself, like it should.

Do I need a NEW Control Panel?

My washer has the mechanism in the hinge area. We called the repairman and the screw in the left hinge was loose. He tightened it and no more problems. So I check it every once in a while to make sure it is still tight.

A washing machine must be level on three sides. Try a level first. That is what finally worked for me.

place something heavy on the lid, closest to where the lid activates the washing. like a full bottle of laundry detergent.
