How to stop the paint on my dryer from chipping and rusting?

What is the best way to stop paint from chipping and peeling on top of dryer - causing it to rust. I painted over the spot with white paint, left it looking ugly and chipped again anyway.

    Hi Linda,

You can purchase appliance paint that will stick better. It may not look perfect but it should stop the rusting. First you need to sand of all of the rust and try to feather the edges. Clean the areas well, then touch up with a primer (like Rustoleum) that works on metal, again feathering the edges. Then you can use the appliance paint to finish the job. Wishing you the best.

Sand and use a paint like Rustoleum made to keep the rust away. Curious as to why it is rusting in the first place. Is it in a very damp basement? If yes you should consider a dehumidifier for that area if it is damp enough for your appliances to rust.

The dryer is in the laundry room off of the kitchen and the door is always left open. Not sure why is would be rusting but thank you for your answer.

    Linda,

Apply a couple coats of car wax after you repair the rust.

Sand the chipped areas completely smooth. Be sure to clean away any sanding dust so it doesn't appear in your new finish, then paint with appliance paint.
