KMS Woodworks on May 22, 2013Have you tried a "white noise" type machine. These come in a number of varieties, electronic and "wind" or fan type units. http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-Dohm-DS-Speed-Sound-Conditioner/dp/B000KUHFGM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369230929&sr=8-1&keywords=white+noise+machine I have a client who lives in an urban "condo" she swears by it. The above link has close to 3000 reviews with the far majority giving it 5 stars. I think this would be quicker and cheaper way to get around the problem. Did you ever see that Gary Larson Cartoon...About the "real reason fo the noise upstairs" It was a pic of two people tossing cinder block bricks at a large target drawn on the middle if the floor.Helpful Reply

Douglas Jones on May 22, 2013I recently heard that pink noise is the new thing and can get a better rest. Other possibilities are you could install a sound ceiling. This depends on what your ceiling is, concrete is more difficult to deal with. A sound ceiling or wall can be constructed with metal framing run the across ceiling if attached to wood framing, then install sound resistant drywall leaving an air space between the 2 layers. This allows for sound dissipation. There are also sound deadening insulations available. Best of luck with your problem. DougHelpful Reply
