Hanging pictures on plaster walls

I'm buying an older home with plaster walls and I have lots of pictures and heavy mirrors, and no clue as to how to hang them. The walls are in perfect shape and there is no money to Sheetrock over them. Suggestions, please!

Command Hooks or velcro tapes. I'm not sure if the adhesive will mare the plaster though.

I hear you. I do not trust the Command hooks for weighty items. One tip is to heat the nail head first. Didn't work. Another is to place a piece of masking tape on the wall and then nail. Only thing it does is keep the debris in place. If your house is quite old like mine, the mouldings at the ceiling have a gap so a special clip can be inserted and pics hung by chains, cords, etc. Who wants that? I may use a really fine bit on my drill and slowly, slowly make a tiny hole first before nailing. Just repaired the many holes from pic hanging, and painted my den. My pics are just sitting as I am avoiding the impending mess.

Put tape on the wall and with a very small drill bit do a pilot hole for the screw or nail you are going to hang from. The tape keeps the plaster from chipping

Add a picture rail around the walls and suspend your pictures and mirrors on thin wires and hooks from the rail. The wires will hardly show and the items can be taken down without damaging your walls at all.

You would have to find where the studs are and put your nail. in that stud and that should hold your heavier hangings. There is a stud finder you can buy at your Lowe's or hardware store. I would not use the hangers that you put in the plaster that spreads out in the back of the sheetrock/plaster for support and not stud supported.

I have plaster walls... the wide painters tape works great, it keeps the plaster from cracking use a small drill bit to start if your art/mirrors are heavy you can try toggle bolts

Please do not use the command type hooks. They can hold the weight, but when the temperature drops so does whatever it was they were holding. For your heavy mirrors, use a stud finder and use a screw if you can't find a stud use a screw with a toggle bolt.

The only helpful suggestion that I have is Command hooks--not sure they make them for everything but I keep a supply handy.

Have a very small drill bit and do it slow. I can't recall ever chipping plaster putting a nail in, removing has been a different story!

I dont know much about plaster walls but on my sheetrock I can tap with my knuckles on the wall and can find the studs locations by the sound. In between studs is a hollow sound.
