I had to remove a gun rack from a drywall wall, now I have half inch holes in the wall. Can I just fill them with spackle?

  • Hi Helen! You should be able to use spackle paste to fill those holes. Just be sure they are good and dry before sanding them.

You can use spackle but do so in a few layers letting it dry well in between--in other words don't fill the entire hole all at once-- or use some drywall mud. Overfill the hole so you have a little half bubble of spackle/mud and then when dry sand it smooth.

If the holes are really large put some spackle in and around the hole then put a piece of fibreglass tape over it, then spackle over everything and sand when dry. I use this method on any crack that I don't want to return as well. Fibreglass tape is sold in rolls at any hardware store.
