You should be able to use finishing nails to repair the paneling and keep it from separating. It seems important to find out the cause of the separation if it is just needing up keep or if there is moisture behind the wall or some other problem.
You could try F-26 adhesive sealer. This works well on most surfaces and can be found at Lowes.
I think all paneling will separate over time. Find small matching nails and go in at an appropriate angle on the seams and if you have to use a bit of clear caulk no one will be the wiser.
Your paneling is drying out causing the shrinkage. Unless you increase the moisture level in the air inside your home, it will continue to ever so gradually shrink. Try putting a hot steam vaporizer in the rooms where thisis happening. Give the paneling time to absorb moisture again. It may even go back to its previous state & separation disappear. BE PATIENT with this, it isn't an over-night process.
I said increase the moisture in the air in room/s that your heat has dried out, NOT set up a rain forest. Hot steam vaporizers are not expensive & are well worth the investment.
