I would like to replace the backsplash in my kitchen, but can't afford to go to a great expense. What would work and be easy and economical to do?

    What's behind the sink now?

It's rather hard to describe, but looks like a cheap speckled counter top-type material.

It sounds like it's probably formica? There are some ppel & stick tiles I've seen others use, I haven't tried them. But they come in a lot of different styles/colors. My sister-in-law used some behind their stove, and said it was easy to put up and looks pretty good. It cost her less than $40 and was a good option until she remodels or puts house on market. It was similar to the picture below.

My sister-in-law cut them with a box knife and a pair of heavy shears. She only had one outlet to cut out, but she didn't mention it being hard to cut.

I've also used contact paper! :) Happened across a roll that looked like tile, tried it, was better than what was there, and used it...…
