I am presently buying and cutting foam board . but I am afraid the low R value wont make much of a difference.
Expanding foam is usually installed when the stud walls are bare. Trimmed smooth with the studs then covered with drywall. Pumping foam in finished walls may not fill all areas and always a chance of blowing the walls out or bowing the drywall. Best solution is blown in cellulose insulation.

yes it can, depending what kind of spray foam it is if you can cut thru it,also best to have air sealed electrical boxes so it doesn't get in the electrical boxes itself---here's some info. I found on it https://www.icynene.com/en-us/blog/can-foam-insulation-be-used-electrical-wiring-tips-electrical-professionals-and-electricians
That was my first thought when I saw a commercial for this type of product.I'm afraid to put it around old wiring.check with an electrician first . Then maybe just fill in the ones where there are no electric outlets
We had an insulation contractor evaluate our house. Concrete block walls, brick front, stucco sides and back. Inside are firring strips, drywall and 1/4” of plaster. He said he could insulate the walls but it would cost thousands and we would get R2-3 in return. He suggested spray foam between basement joists with fiberglass batts and R-43 in the attic. The workers liked the prep work we did for them to make their job easier and they sprayed R-48 in the attic.
My job is to foam the outer wall outlets and switches as I have wiring replaced. In the meantime, I’m using the foam inserts behind the covers.
The walls are cold to touch but the house is comfortable.
Two days ago, I put peelable caulk around my basement workshop window and the basement door that opens to Bilco doors. I don’t use either in the winter. I could feel the difference almost immediately.
