Absolutely! If you don't want a 'big' job, get a small jar of polyurethane and after doing a good cleaning and degreasing, possibly a sanding with a superfine grit, and then 'paint' on a thin layer. Give that a chance to dry. You should not be able to see the transition in the finish from new to old. Repeat layering on thin coats of poly until you've built up what was worn.
