Does anyone know about restoring a claw foot tub?

I have an iron clawfoot tub that has been weathered pretty serious. There’s no cracks or chips which is great. The inside is Rough like all the enamel has come off. Is there any way to restore it where it won’t peel and yellow? I have done some reading and I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want to waste time or money. I don’t want to go through the whole process only to have to do it again on a few years or have to remove it and put in a completely new on..

There are companies that specialize in restoring old tubs like this (see DIY network) you will have to check locally to find one.. some will come out and do it at your home... I have seen several of the DIY shows refurbish the OUTSIDE by wire brushing, sanding, and then priming and painting. If the enamel on the inside is bad... you would need a professional
