We have under lighting beneath our kitchen cabinets. Mistake made and drilled large hole( 1 to 2 ") in back of cabinet to run wire. We did not use it, and would like to patch it or fill it in.

Hi. Cover with contact paper. You can buy some really cute patterns. Do the back of the entire cabinet. You may find you like it so much you do the rest of the kitchen!

Use wood paintable, stainable wood filler and sand when dry. Paint or stain to match your cabinets.

Thank you for taking time to respond. Sounds like the best permanent way to fix and match the cabinets. Will give it a try.

You could cut a piece of luan plywood the size of the cabinet width and height between shelves then stain to match and affix using an adhesive like liquid nails.
