If it is an edging strip you can either glue it back on or remove it and purchase another one. They come in a variety of colors in the wood grain pattern.

You should be able to lightly sand it and then recoat with varathane or varnish. Use at least two coats. If you happen to scratch the stain then re-apply a coat before varnishing.
