Teresa on Jun 16, 2016Sorry to read that but I have to say that is what happens to laminate as it ages. I have found some products to use for counter tops to refinish them. I am thinking of redoing my moms counters with a Rust-oleum product. This one is the lower end product it just is one color good price. but the next one is what I want to use its about150.00 and can make the counter look really nice. I have read a lot of good reviews. Good luck hope it helps.Teresa http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rustoleum-254853-29-Oz-Tintable-Specialty-Countertop-Coating/21015336?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=83&adid=22222222227039309547&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=97247792674&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=217950738034&veh=sem The next is what I want to do it makes it look like granite. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Transformations-1-qt-Desert-Sand-Small-Countertop-Kit-258514/202885348?cm_mmc=Shopping%7cTHD%7cG%7c0%7cG-BASE-PLA-D24-Paint%7c&gclid=CI6Eub3Zrc0CFcRgfgodPboPSA&gclsrc=aw.dsHelpful Reply

Lenia Pilkonis Design, LLC on Jun 18, 2016When laminate wears you are basically going down to the resin infused paper. Anything you put on top of it could basically be rubbed off onto your food. Laminate countertops are generally inexpensive and are better (and in the end, less expensive) to just be replaced. You could purchase sheet laminate, scuff up the existing top and glue down the new onto the old. However, as I said, it's generally more expensive and very work intensive.Helpful Reply

Crystal Meyer Griffith on Jun 18, 2016Basically not much except to do one of the laminate restoration kits or replace the countertop. I went with butcher block that I got from a place that sells them for work bench tops. a 10' piece, 36" wide ran about $600 and it's about 2" thick. Already has an oil finish so I just stained it with an oil based stain & sealed with an oil based poly. They come in various widths from about 24" to 36" wide and bunches of lengths. If you have a table saw or a circular saw, it can be cut to the width/length needed. Much cheaper than hardwoods. Most are birch wood. Depends on how rough you are on them. The nice thing is that they can always be sanded down & refinished.Helpful Reply
