Fiber Rush Seat - Cleaning
A: A rush seat should never be cleaned with water. Use a stiff brush to brush away any dirt or dust in between the rows. Use a vacuum cleaner, with the brush attachment, right on the seat. Stubborn dirt may be scratched away if it's on the surface. Stains that have soaked in are now part of the seat.
After the seat has been cleaned, you will want to treat the seat. Once a year mix one part White Shellac to one part denatured alcohol and brush on the top and bottom of the seat. This helps protect the seat from wear and staining in the future and helps prolong the seat's life

Found it to seep into the jute and seals more of it. I am sure that oil base would work to, but I like the easy clean up, so tend to look for water base everything.
