Repairing inside permanent shelving of kitchen cabinets.

We have 30 year old oak exterior, white melamine interior kitchen cabinets. (Will be sanding and restaining the oak exteriors). The interior shelving is white melamine over particle board, that have disintegrated edges from wear and water damage. Looking for ideas to repair these edges. Am also thinking of 2 or 3 coats of primer (not paint) to spruce them up on inside, however, concerned about primer peeling or sticking to dishes. Anyone out there tackled these 2 issues on white melamine shelving?

Is it just the flat outside edge of the shelf that’s damaged? You can also just cover it up my laying down some contact paper. -

Look also into replacements:I'd try a kitchen remodeling service... as they remodel, they get the OLD cabinets out... Many old cabinets are standard size with Solid Wood shelves.If that's not to your liking, get a price on shelves alone. [they last longer] -

Thank you for replying! It's not just the edging that needs replacing. It's the wood particle itself that has worn away along with the melamine. I think it needs to be built back up somehow with maybe a wood glue type product, then sanded, then melamine reapplied. Looking to see if anyone has tackled this part of a similar project for different ideas. Will definitely be using the edging though.
