If it’s damaged, you can take it off and get a new piece cut at a home improvement store. Once off, you can paint it ( use wood filler if you have chance nks missing, then sand and paint. or install new wood on top and finish that. Vinyl or ceramic tiles can also be applied easily. Hope this helps.
chalk based furniture paint!
You can lightly sand most laminate material. On this piece of furniture, I'd suggest a very fine grain sanding material, and do so with your hand (versus a belt sander!). If you're wanting to paint over the area, you can use a primer to ensure it adheres properly. From the image here, this reminds me of a dresser I had growing up. The 'ribbon' areas were painted in a gold leaf crackle. It was a favorite of mine!
You can also choose not to sand by priming with a specialist primer, like Zinsser's 1-2-3. This product can be used on laminate, wood, metal, formica etc. Saves a lot of work and always gives a professional finish. You can then use any good quality Eggshell paint, chalk paint etc to suit your taste. Happy painting
If it's in good shape and needs no repair, I would say Anniedfly's suggestion is a great solution.
I have a piece of furniture similar to this one. It’s really good quality but that laminate top was just u-g-l-y. I painted the sides, front and drawers of mine but couldn’t figure out what to do to the top. My sweet husband is VERY good with spray paint, so we taped off and he put two or three thin coats of a creamy white on the laminate. Then he sprayed a clear coat of some kind of protection (don’t remember what exactly) We’ve used it this way for years and it’s held up great.
